Bought it. Not using it.

New Optimizely accounts often stall between contract and first test. The setup is usually why.

What's included

Set up to scale.

Decisions made in week one decide what you can test in month six.

Plan the installation

Web snippet placement, Feature Experimentation SDKs where tests go server-side, and a plan for single-page apps and consent.

Set up audiences

Custom attributes from login state, CRM or plan type, so audiences reflect real customer segments rather than click history.

Validate the tracking

Pageview, click and custom events tested in preview, compared with your analytics and signed off before the first test goes live.

Set up governance

Staging and production environments, naming rules, user roles and a QA checklist, so the account stays usable as more teams join.

A/A test results in Optimizely: two identical variants with no significant difference and matching event counts. Proves bucketing and tracking work before real tests begin.

Security, by consideration.

Trust is part of the build.

For your Optimizely project, we consider publishing access, experiments, audience data and connected services as part of one connected build.

Changes you can trace.

GitHub workflows, peer review and dependency checks bring decisions into the release process.

Protected in transit.

Certificate configuration, HTTPS and secure headers help protect the path between your users and your systems.

Intelligence with limits.

Scoped tool access, validated inputs and human approval where automated actions carry consequences.

Ready in three steps.

You finish with an account your team can test in from day one.

Optimizely implementation questions.

A few things worth discussing before your Optimizely implementation takes shape.

Should the Optimizely snippet go in Google Tag Manager?

The Optimizely Web snippet should not go in Google Tag Manager on most sites. Loading through GTM delays the snippet, which causes flicker as variants apply after the page appears. We place the snippet directly in the page head and keep GTM for the analytics side.

Why run an A/A test when setting up Optimizely?

An A/A test in Optimizely shows the same experience to two groups to check that bucketing and tracking work. If the two groups report different results, something in the implementation is wrong. Running one before real tests catches event and audience problems while they are cheap to fix.

Does Optimizely work with single-page applications?

Optimizely Web works with single-page applications built in React, Vue or Next.js, with extra setup. Page activation has to follow route changes rather than full page loads, and variants must survive re-renders. For heavier product changes, Feature Experimentation in your code is usually the cleaner route.

How much does an Optimizely implementation cost?

A Web Experimentation setup on a marketing site sits at the low end. Feature Experimentation across a product, with CRM attributes and several environments, costs more. Every setup ends with a live A/A test as proof it works.
